ASC jobs | better than we think

This newly released report, researched and written by Public First and commissioned by Care Matters,

challenges common perceptions of social care jobs for working-age adults as low-skilled, insecure and unfulfilling. Based on a survey of 4,099 UK workers, it finds social care jobs compare favourably with, and often outperform, other roles paying under £40,000. Workers report higher levels of purpose, responsibility, people skills, job security and opportunities to raise concerns.

The sector also offers strong training, progression and long-term employment prospects, especially compared with retail and hospitality. While pay remains a significant concern, the evidence suggests social care provides meaningful, skilled and secure careers that deserve greater recognition.
